GE Aerospace Announces $14 Million Expansion of Pune Manufacturing Plant
GE Aerospace has announced a $14 million investment to expand and modernize its manufacturing facility in Pune, Maharashtra, marking another major step in strengthening the company’s long-term presence in India. The investment underscores the American aerospace giant’s confidence in India as a high-potential hub for advanced engineering and precision manufacturing, especially at a time when global aviation markets are witnessing strong recovery and rising demand for aircraft engines.

The Pune facility, operational since 2010, is a critical node in GE Aerospace’s global supply chain and currently produces a variety of components for the company’s commercial and military engine programs. With the new investment, the plant is set to undergo a significant transformation aimed at enhancing capabilities, scaling operations, and supporting next-generation aerospace technologies.

According to GE Aerospace, the infusion of capital will be used to install state-of-the-art machinery, including advanced CNC equipment, automated material-handling systems, and upgraded inspection tools. These improvements will increase the facility’s precision manufacturing capacity, enabling production of more complex components for high-performance jet engines such as the GE90, GEnx, LEAP, and potentially future propulsion systems.

The company also plans to modernize its testing and quality-control infrastructure, ensuring that components manufactured in Pune continue to meet the stringent international standards required for aviation safety. GE stated that the upgrade will help strengthen its global supply resilience, reduce lead times, and increase the plant’s ability to support fluctuating demand cycles across commercial and defence aviation.

Beyond operational upgrades, the investment is expected to generate new employment opportunities across engineering, machining, quality assurance, and maintenance. GE Aerospace has emphasized that developing local talent will be central to the expansion, with additional training programs being planned to skill the workforce in advanced manufacturing disciplines. This aligns with India’s broader focus on nurturing a high-skill industrial ecosystem under initiatives such as Make in India and Skill India.

Industry experts say GE’s renewed investment sends a strong signal about India’s growing role in the global aerospace manufacturing value chain. With major aircraft makers like Boeing and Airbus projecting significant growth in aircraft demand over the next two decades driven by Asia’s expanding aviation market global suppliers are increasingly turning to India to secure long-term production capacity.

The decision also comes at a time when India is deepening its defence-aerospace collaboration with global players. GE Aerospace recently partnered with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to produce F414 fighter jet engines in India, a landmark step in boosting indigenization in defence manufacturing. Strengthening the Pune facility’s capabilities could play an important supporting role in GE’s broader India strategy.

Additionally, the investment is expected to bring growth opportunities for India’s network of local suppliers in casting, forging, machining, and materials research. With GE increasing its reliance on Indian production, domestic vendors may gain access to advanced technologies, higher-value contracts, and long-term export opportunities.

GE Aerospace has confirmed that the Pune facility expansion will be executed in phases over the next 12 to 18 months, minimizing disruption while ensuring steady workflow. Once completed, the upgraded facility will have higher output capacity, improved product quality, and enhanced ability to support new global engine programs.

Overall, the $14 million investment reflects GE Aerospace’s strategic bet on India as an innovation and manufacturing partner capable of supporting its global ambitions. For India, it represents another milestone in its journey toward becoming a world-class aerospace manufacturing hub.
